As if Twitter weren’t enough of a time-sink, Jonah Peretti of Buzzfeed and Huffington Post fame created a choose your own adventure game using only Twitter (and lots of Bit.ly links.) In case you aren’t familiar with choose your own adventure games, it’s basically a written work which allows the reader to make choices that affect the storyline, creating a tree-shaped narrative structure. You enter a dark cave: do you want to a) explore the cave or b) turn away? Depending on which one you choose, you’ll be sent to a different page in the book, and the story continues.

According to the  Nielsen Company , the global average time spent per person on social networking sites is now nearly five and half hours per month (February 2010 data), with Facebook accounting for the majority of that time. That’s up more than two hours from last year. In arriving at that conclusion, Nielsen measured social network usage per person across 10 countries and compared that to data from the same time last year

Sex.com is the most valuable domain name in the world (for obvious reasons). Right now it’s up for sale, and two of the prospective buyers might surprise you: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and a California meat company called BullWhip. PETA published a letter requesting that Sex.com’s owners donate the domain name (valued at $18 million) so the organization can use it as a tool in its recent “vegetarians are sexy” ad campaign.

It’s been anticipated for a while now ; Verizon just officially released information on the specifics of what Verizon Droid owners will have to look forward to in the upcoming Android 2.1 update. The update will be performed over the air and will bump up the Droid to the more current version of the Android mobile operating system. New features will include pinch-to-zoom multi-touch support in the browser, Gallery, and Google Maps, the Weather and News widgets made popular on the Nexus One , voice-to-text entry, a new 3D Gallery layout for photos, and even a nice surprise that most people thought wouldn’t make it to the Droid: Live Wallpapers

A friend described the 45-minute service in Toronto as ‘very sad but with a lot of laughter.’ By Gil Kaufman Friends and family lay Corey Haim to rest Tuesday Photo: Jag Gundu/ Getty Images Hundreds of friends and family packed the Thornhill memorial chapel in Toronto on Tuesday (March 16) for the funeral of actor Corey Haim , who died last week at age 38 of yet-undetermined causes. According to The Toronto Star, more than 200 people attended the ceremony, while more than a dozen fans of “The Lost Boys” star stood quietly on the chapel lawn outside to pay their respects. Maytal Kotler — a second cousin of Haim’s longtime friend and acting foil Corey Feldman who also appeared in the pair’s reality show, “The Two Coreys” — described the service as “very sad but with a lot of laughter.” The service was closed to the public

A study by mobile application analytics company Flurry reveals that Apple’s App Store now has more than twice the number of applications as the Facebook Platform , despite Facebook ’s much larger market of users. Flurry estimates that as of its eighteenth month this January, the App Store for iPhone , iPod touch and (shortly) iPad devices has 140,000 applications, while the Facebook Platform only reached 60,000 apps in 18 months. The discrepancy might exist because the App Store provides a clearer path to revenue and return on investment than Facebook’s until-recently ad-supported application platform.
